Small Bites

One of my Ma and I's favorite things to do for dinner is munch on tapas.. a little taste of everything. On Saturday night, Ma grilled a tender steak from CSU, microwaved the perfect crispy asparagus (best food trick ever--see below) and assembled a trifecta of delicate Crispbread crackers, taleggio cheese and Loredana's Siena fra diavolo spread. We also got on the topic of eating local so I'd thought I'd share a few of my favorite local munchies...

Local Foods (mostly from Boulder, all from Colorado):
Noosa Yoghurt from Morning Fresh -- dare I say it's better than ice cream?
Chocolove (met the owner the other day and I confessed that the Almonds & Sea Salt was my favorite)
Bakhti Chai -- the traditional drink with a kick of ginger and other fiery spices
CSU meats -- There's a peace I get knowing that my beef/buffalo comes from right up the road.
It's local, healthy and cheap!
Chicken & Veggie Dumplings -- one of my favorite dinner time meals.
Lara Bars -- 19 flavors made completely from raw ingredients. Perfect for on-the-go!
Two Moms in the Raw -- raw granola with a little moisture. It's best eaten straight from the bag.
Justin's Nut Butter -- peanut/almond/hazelnut butter galore. I have to seriously control my self around this!
Izze -- a refreshing fizzy drink on a hot summer day!

Have you ever looked into food shares?
What's better than getting local, fresh, seasonal fruits and veggies delivered to your door step?

To cook the perfect asparagus:
Cut ends (about 3 inches) off of asparagus ends and rinse. Sprinkle with sea salt.
Get 3-4 full sheets of paper towels--wet them with water and wring out excess
Wrap the asparagus in the towels like a burrito, place on plate
Nuke in the microwave for 3-4 minutes.
Perfection.
